BEAGLE :the multi-talented pro's

BEAGLE is the 3rd most popular breed of dog in america. Yes this is the famous comic character SNOOPY's breed and well it is as intelligent. It is a breed of small to medium-sized dog.
Beagles are intelligent and are popular because of their size, even temper, and lack of inherited health problems. They somewhat resemble the foxhound.

The beagle has an even temper and gentle disposition, they are amiable and typically neither aggressive nor timid. These dogs are active and exhibit puppy like behavior until 2-4 years of age.

beagles were developed primarily for HUNTING HARE. they were seen as ideal hunting companions for the elderly who could follow on horseback without exerting themselves, for young hunters who could keep up with them on ponies, and for the poorer hunters who could  not afford to maintain a stable of good hunting horses.

beagles are also used as DETECTION DOGS in the beagle brigade of the united states department of agriculture
BUYING A BEAGLE?
KNOW THE FOLLOWING....

1. Beagles are intelligent, but are single minded and hard to train.

2. these dogs need more exercise than small dog breeds but less than big breeds.

3. these dogs are sturdy, and thus they ask of little maintenance.

4. They are generally obedient but can be difficult to recall once they have picked up a scent, and are easily distracted by the smells around them.

5.  they make poor guard dogs as they get distracted easily and are won over in seconds, although their tendency to bark or howl when confronted with the unfamiliar makes them good watch dogs.

6. beagles are excellent with children and this is one of the reasons they have become popular family pets.

PUGGLE

7. beagles are also one of the best breed to own with cats. they are known to be very gentle with cats and hardly display any aggression towards them.

POPULAR BEAGLE CROSSBREEDS:

In the 1850's stonehenge recommended a cross between a beagle and a scottish terrier as a retriever. he found the crossbreed to be a good worker, silent and obedient, but it had the drawback that it was small and it could hardly carry a hare

PUGGLE: one of the designer cross breed of a beagle and a pug. Less excitable than a beagle and with lower exercise requirement, these dogs are suited to city dwelling.

ROLES PLAYED BY THE DOG WORLDWIDE:

Although bred for hunting, Beagles are versatile and are nowadays employed for various other roles like:
1. sniffer dogs: used for drugs and explosive detection
2. pet therapy: because of their gentle and unimposing build
3. in june 2006 a trained beagle was credited with life of its owner after using her owners mobile phone to dial an emergency no.
4. in the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake beagle rescued a man buried in the rubble for 100 hours.
5. these dogs are used in medical research.

PUGS: the toy dogs

What comes to your mind when i say "PUG"?
i think .... a small toy like creature with a wrinkly, short muzzled face and a curled tail .
But all good things come in small packages ... pugs have amazing personality which i why i think they're so common in tv commercials or daily soaps.

PLANNING ON BUYING A PUG?KNOW THE FOLLOWING:......

1. strong willed and rarely aggressive the pug is suitable for families with children.

2. majority of the breed is fond of children and sturdy enough to play with them.

3. they can be quite and docile but also vivacious and teasing.

4. unlike other dogs they cannot run distances and get tired after short walks thus it is an excellent choice for owners who don't have the space or time for taking their dog for a walk.

5. they are toy dogs or you could call them show dogs, ie you cannot expect them to guard the house or to do any sort of work.

6. these dogs are are fragile thus need regular vet visits.

7. unlike the rumor these dogs do need a lot of care and compassion.

8. they are an allegory for recreational dogs... because that's all they can really do.

TYPES OF PUGS:
Pugs have two distinct shapes for ears "ROSE" & "BUTTON".
ROSE ears are smaller than the standard size button and are folded with the front edge against the side of their heads.
(breeding preference goes to BUTTON style pugs

COATS- Their smooth and glossy coats can be fawn, apricot fawn, silver fawn, chocolate, grey, stone fawn, white, albino, brindle and black. the markings are clearly defined the trace is black line extending from the occiput to the tail. the tail normally curls tightly over the hip

APRICOT PUG

TAKE CARE:The pugs need special care , due to the wrinkles on their faces owners must clean the inside the creases as irritation and infection can result from improper care , the pug has an elongated palate, thus when excited they are prone to REVERSE SNEEZING in which the dog will quickly and seemingly laboriously, gasp or snort, such episodes are not harmful to the pug and resolve themselves. massaging the dog's throat or covering its nose in order to make it breathe through its mouth can often shorten episodes. Pugs tend to overeat and thus one must take care of its eating habits.

LIFE SPAN: 12-15 years

GOLDEN RETRIEVER

this happens to be my favorite breed...
and turns out i've got a retriever too...
so here's what u need to know about the breed and decide accordingly if the breed suits you..

the golden retriever is a medium sized breed of dog. They were historically developed as gundogs to retrieve shot waterfowl such as ducks and upload games birds during hunting and shooting parties. They were named retriever from their ability to retrieve game undamaged and have AN INSTINCTIVE LOVE OF WATER. Golden retriever have a dense inner coat that provides them with adequate warmth and a water repellent outer coat that lies flat against their body. The official colour of the breed is varying shades of gold that are most often seen. These dogs are well suited to suburban or country environments. although they need substantial outdoor exercise, they should be kept in a fenced area because of their instincts as hunting dogs and their tendency to roam.

FOOD

PUPPIES: 2-3 CUPS
ADULT DOG: 4-6 CUPS

although dog foods are very good for dog health but home made food can sometimes do wonders for the dog

here are a few ideas for home made food for the dog

1. boil rice with vegetables like carrots, cabbage, broccoli, bottle gourd (lawki)
    and pulses (any type)
but make sure that it is perfectly boiled and does not have too much water content, its should not end up sticky or the dog will not like eating it.

2. you could also go for flatbread (chappati/parantha)...
and boiled chicken or boiled goat meat...

you can pair the above with a bit of dog food,

AGE WISE WEIGHT OF FOOD THAT SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THE DOG..

0 to 4 months: 100 to 200 gm food
                       (GIVE FOOD 3 TIMES)
prefer giving light food....and lots of milk

6 to 10months: 300 to 400 gm food
                       (3 TIMES)
reduce quantity of milk and more of hard food

10 months onwards: 500gm food
                              (2 TIMES)
prefer yoghurt over milk.. and now you can use more vegetables and
increase the quantity of food...start non vegetarian food

GROOMING

goldens require regular grooming and occasional baths. they also need to be brushed on a daily basis and this is very primary for their dental health. keep a check for ticks and if u find any get an anti tick shampoo.

BUYING A GOLDEN?

CHECK BACK ON THE FOLLOWING.....

1. you should have enough open green place for the golden to run around free and a family that loves dogs

2.
you should have enough time to play with the dog and take him for runs

3. enough resources to get the dog vaccinated and groomed which becomes primary due to its coat.

4. you should be able to train the dog and keep him like a family member

MUST DO TRAINING FOR RETRIEVER

1. teach them fetch preferably with a ball

2. let them swim and have fun with water.

3. make them play fetch it does wonders for their exercise.
